WattUp wireless charging system

A better version might be on the way: The FCC has just approved wireless charging tech that can work at a distance of feet, so you don't even have to set your phone down. Since then, Energous Corporations stock has risen more than 76% and is now selling at $15.57, a share. "As the first FCC certification for power-at-a-distance wireless charging under Part 18 of the FCC's rules, this development represents a new era of wireless charging, and opens up a tremendous opportunity for the electronics industry".

Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move.

The company's WattUp Mid Field transmitter can deliver power via radio frequency (RF) energy to WattUp-enabled electronic devices at a distance of up to three feet.

The wireless standard hasn't yet been specified by the company. The company will be present at CES 2018 next month and eager to demonstrate the WattUp technology to attendees.

Disappointed With Myself - Liverpool Star Self-Critical As Reds Crush Swansea City
Liverpool handed struggling Swansea an expected 5-0 thrashing in the English Premier League on Tuesday. It wasn't an easy game, it was really hard work and I have no problem with that.

According to the San Jose-based startup behind the WattUp technology, the transmitter is compatible with smartphones, tablets, fitness trackers, smartwatches, wireless headphones, keyboards, mice, smart speakers and other devices.

When device makers flaunt wireless charging support there is some charging pad or station involved on which the device needs to be placed. For the first time, one of these devices - the WattUp from Energous - has obtained FCC approval. The technology can also be used to charge devices via contact, similar the more familiar Qi charging pads available now. WattUp is platform-agnostic, meaning you could theoretically buy a charger for any phone, regardless of who makes the device. This means that devices now on sale are not compatible with the transmitter out of the box.

The product that Energous is going to be showcasing in the future is called WattUP and will not require you to place your device in a static position. Instead, it would be great to be able to have this space - or the same in an area of the living room or kitchen - where devices could be plonked to charge without a second thought. That means multiple devices could be left on a desk and automatically recharge, which is very convenient.
