3 people die in a small plane crash in southeastern Indiana

Three people and a dog were killed - and another dog survived - when a plane crashed in IN on Saturday, authorities said.

Authorities confirm three people and one dog were killed.

A single-engine Cessna that was heading to Frederick, Md., from Kansas City, Mo., crashed into a wooded area just after 9 p.m. near Oldenburg in Franklin County, Indiana police said in a news release.

Initial reports indicated that the plane caught fire after it crashed.

Only one survivor got off the plane: A second dog, which showed up injured at a nearby home and was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. Fire personnel were able to make it to the crash scene and extinguish the flames, he said.

Hours later, the plane was being tracked by Cincinnati Air Traffic Control when it disappeared from radar.

Schuda was director of the National Transportation Safety Board Training Center at Ashburn, Virginia; Cantilena taught clinical pharmacology and medical toxicology at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.

Police say it's still unclear as to what caused the place to crash.

The plane was registered to a limited liability company out of Potomac, Maryland.

Autopsies were expected to be performed on the crash victims Monday. They did not release the victims' identities.
