Britain First deputy Fransen re-arrested after court appearance on hate charges

Britain First deputy leader Paul Golding was arrested after he arrived at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning with deputy leader Jayda Fransen

Britain First confirmed Golding's arrest to its followers on Twitter.

The deputy leader of far-right, UK-based group Britain First has been released on bail after appearing in court accused of threatening behaviour.

After Fransen left the court, she was re-arrested by PSNI officers in relation to a seperate video she had posted on social media earlier this week.

The Court released Fransen on bail, on condition she stays 500 meters away of any demonstration or parade in Northern Ireland.

Ms Fransen, who gained global notoriety after her Islamophobic tweets were shared by Donald Trump, claimed Mr Goulding was arrested on "trumped-up charges".

The 31-year-old appeared in Laganside Court this morning charged with using words that were threatening, abusive or insulting during her speech at an anti-terrorism rally in Belfast in August this year.

"Standing in front of a Belfast "peace wall", which divides rival Protestant and Catholic communities, this is Britain 2030".

Golding was bailed to appear in the same court next month.

She shot another anti-Muslim video in Belfast and posted it online on Wednesday.

She has been taken to Belfast city centre police station for questioning.

It comes as the group gained its greatest publicity ever when it revealed Donald Trump had retweeted three of Ms Fransen's videos, endorsing her Islamophobic message to his 43.6 million followers.

She said the rally had been suspended but added that police wanted to prevent her participation in a public rally.

Fransen's barrister, Richard McConkey, branded the curbs on her freedom of speech, as a politician, as disproportionate.

A detective told the court that a "Free Speech for Jayda" rally was planned to take place last weekend and was postponed because of snow.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall expressed doubts about whether her jurisdiction extended to the accused's social media use.

"We have concerns there would be further offences and also concerns about public order", the detective said. She is due to return to Court on January 9.
