Google Assistant Heads to Tablets, Older Android Phones

After weeks of speculations, search engine giant Google has finally confirmed to release the much-awaited Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Google Assistant to tablets.

Google promised an Android version for low-end devices and now, it's making good on its word by introducing the new Android Oreo Go.

According to the company, Google Assistant will be rolling out to the tablets running Android 7.0 Nougat or 6.0 Marshmallow over the coming week. Assistant will be rolling out to all Android tablet users in the U.S. with the language set in English.

The update will also be rolling out to users in Italy, Japan, Brazil, Germany and Korea.

On phones, the assistant was already running Android 8.0 Oreo, 7.0 Nougat and 6.0 Marshmallow. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for latest tech news, daily deals, and reviews.

The Google Assistant will be rolled out to Android tablets, however, not all Android tablets will get the Assistant. The voice assistant also learns the more you interact with it and will eventually offer you more functionality.

It should also be noted that the availability update for Google Assistant does not include India, which is the second biggest smartphone market worldwide and where customers are more likely to buy cheaper devices on old Android versions. The Assistant is available on smartphones running Lollipop as part of an update to the Google Play Services.

Announced back alongside the first generation Pixel smartphones, Google Assistant was exclusive to Pixel devices.

In addition to the expansion to the Android tablets, Google has revealed that it is adding the support for Android 5.0 Lollipop smartphones in the Assistant.

Google Assistant will enable users to ask questions, query the weather, integrate with other smart devices within your household and a suite more. Unlike the standard Google Assistant app, the Google Assistant Go will come in smaller file size and might lack all the functions.
