Mueller Demands Trump's Deutsche Bank Account Details, Where President Owes Millions

Director Defends FBI After Trump Says Bureau Is in 'Tatters'

"U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has asked Deutsche Bank for data on accounts held by President Donald Trump and his family, a person close to the matter said on Tuesday".

Bloomberg reported early on Tuesday that Deutsche Bank, the German bank that serves as Trump's biggest lender, had been forced to submit documents about its client relationship with the president after Mueller issued the bank with a subpoena for information.

A USA official with knowledge of Mueller's probe said one reason for the subpoenas was to find out whether Deutsche Bank may have sold some of Trump's mortgage or other loans to Russian state development bank VEB or other Russian banks that now are under US and European Union sanctions.

Deutsche Bank has paid hundreds of millionsdollars in finesto regulators for its involvement in money laundering and other financial crimes, which the lawmakers cited in their request for details about what the bank knows about its dealings with the Trumps.

Trump has done billions of dollars' worth of business with Deutsche Bank in the past 20 years; he has previously said that he would consider Mueller looking into his finances beyond any connection to the Russian Federation investigation "a violation".

Deutsche Bank is not the only Trump-related business interest that is attracting the attention of investigators.

Suffice it to say, for President Donald Trump's supporters who see the investigation as little more than a witch hunt, the reaction was not too pleasant. Mueller's subpoena to Deutsche Bank may be aimed at exploring those claims. Kushner also flatly denied Russian financial connections when he talked with members of Congress this fall.

Mueller was appointed special counsel in May, after President Donald Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

Russian Federation has denied meddling in the election and Mr Trump has said there was no collusion. And that's not to mention the fact that Trump said on national television that he fired Comey to shut down the investigation, and told the same thing to the Russian ambassador and foreign minister. Last week Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to a single count of making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

During his White House campaign, Trump said he would seek to improve ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which had been frequently strained during President Barack Obama's administration. Those trades are being investigated in multiple probes in the USA and Europe.
