Florida State reportedly hiring Oregon's Willie Taggart to replace Jimbo Fisher

Taggart leaving Oregon to be next Florida St. football coach

Taggart led the Ducks to a 7-5 record this season, despite being without starting quarterback Justin Herbert for a big chunk of the season, and they'll play No. 25 Boise State in the AutoNation Cure Bowl in Las Vegas on December 16.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound defensive back, out of Wesley Chapel High School (Zephyrhills, Florida), was the most likely prospect to decommit in Oregon's class if Taggart left for Florida State.

Taggart, a Florida native, spent one season in OR, going 7-5.

It hasn't even been a year since Taggart held his introductory press conference at OR, replacing Mark Helfrich.

Willie Taggart is set to become the next head football coach at Florida State, according to reports from Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated, Brett McMurphy, John Canzano and confirmed by Taggart to ESPN.

LaVar Ball pulls LiAngelo Ball out of UCLA
However, a source at UCLA told ESPN's Arash Markazi that this is probably the end for the Ball family at the school. The three haven't been allowed to play, practice or travel with the Bruins since.

Mullens said the university has started a nationwide search for a new head coach. As it turns out, the wait for the next head coach didn't take all that long like officials promised. After firing both the offensive and defensive coordinators following the 2014 campaign, he steered USF to an 8-5 record in 2015, leasing them to their first bowl game in five years.

And now he's the Seminoles' next head coach. Why hire someone who has a sub.500 career record at 47-50? The money Taggart is getting and what his coaching staff will look like is not yet known.

In fact, the state's seven FBS programs have all hired a new coach within the last two years.

Oregon's potentially historic class is beginning to slide. Yet for certain, athletic director Stan Wilcox did his due diligence to hire the best-possible candidate for the job.
