Washington Post Poll of Alabama Senate Race Oversamples Democrats

Trump to hold rally near Alabama

A just-released CBS News poll shows a resurgent Roy Moore, with Republican voters ignoring nine fearless women who came forward to tell their stories of alleged child molestation, sexual assault, and pursuit of teenaged girls while the Republican candidate for Alabama's open Senate seat was in his 30's. That is well within the poll's 4.5-point margin of error, but the survey does show that the allegations of sexual misconduct have severely hurt the Republican candidate who was once seen as the favorite to easily win the race.

The December 12 contest has been roiled by accusations from two women who alleged that Moore, when he was a local prosecutor in early 30s, sexually abused them when they were teenagers, while other women, now also in their 50s, said that Moore pursued them for dates when they were teens. But Trump has since defended Moore, noting Moore has denied allegations of sexual misconduct.

This comes as the Republican has been targeted by Democrats and the mainstream media for unverified allegations from almost 40 years ago, but Moore is fighting back.

The poll shows seven out of 10 Republicans (71%) think the allegations against Moore are false.

Less than half of Mr. Moore's supporters, 48 percent, say they're voting for him because he's the "best person for the job".

LeClerc and Ericsson earn Sauber seats
Charles Leclerc , 20, will make his Formula One debut as a full-time driver in the 2018 season driving for Sauber . His only remaining hope of a seat for next year is at Williams , but this now seems bound to go to Robert Kubica.

Three late-November polls, however, show Moore leading Jones.

Saturday's Washington Post poll shows the Alabama electorate is divided on the validity of the allegations against Moore, and that some voters still believe those claims are baseless.

The Washington Post says only 35% of likely voters polled say they believe Moore made unwanted sexual advances on teen girls four decades ago. Eighty percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they trust Moore over Jones on abortion.

Judge Roy Moore and Doug Jones are in a statistical tie, according to a new poll out today from the Washington Post. Perhaps unsurprisingly, women were more likely to find the allegations credible and support Jones than men.
