India squad for South Africa Test series announced

Jasprit Bumrah has got his maiden call-up in Tests for the South‚ÄČAfrica Away series

India's limited-overs specialist Jasprit Bumrah got a Test call-up while wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the team when the selectors India named the squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has also earned a recall, having last played against England in December a year ago.

Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and Lokes Rahul will compete for the opening spots while Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane comprise the middle order.

Apart from Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav will form rest of the pace attack with Hardik Pandya as an all-round option.

As expected, captain Virat Kohli will not be playing the T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka and his deputy Rohit Sharma will be leading the 15-member squad that also has former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Kuldeep Yadav and Vijay Shankar, who were part of the team for the Sri Lanka Tests, did not find a place in the squad.

Kohli has tormented the Sri Lanka bowlers during the ongoing Test series, racking up scores of 104 not out, 213 and 243 in his last three innings.

The squad features three uncapped players in Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda and Basil Thampi.
