Cboe announces bitcoin futures to start trading Sunday

The Commodities Futures Trading Commission, the primary regulator for exchanges like the CME, gave approval for the exchange to create bitcoin futures after six weeks of discussions.

Cboe and CME got approval from the USA derivatives regulator to list bitcoin futures on Friday, after the rival bourses were able to show that their proposed contracts and trading arrangements met the necessary regulatory requirements. But the cryptocurrency could be poised to become a friend to institutional investors, with one of the largest derivatives exchanges in the world, CME Group, planning to launch bitcoin futures before the end of the year.

The move also comes amid a time of climbing prices of bitcoin.

To ensure minimal impact on markets due to bitcoin's price swings, traders will have to pay 33 percent of their trade's price upfront as compared to the 35 percent for CME bitcoin futures trades.
