Google has been tracking Android users even with location services turned off

Google has been collecting location data

This is not the first time that data collection concerns have been raised as more companies seem to be hoovering up unnecessary amounts of information that breach its user's privacy.

According to Google's terms of service: "When you use When you use Google services, we may collect and process information about your actual location".

Quartz added that this has been happening since the beginning of 2017 and the result is that Google, which is behind Android, has access to data about individuals' locations and their movements that go far beyond a reasonable consumer expectation of privacy.

Google has been gathering location data from users with Android smartphones and tablets-even when those users have turned off the location services setting and removed the SIM card, according to a report from Quartz. The term "location services" oftentimes refers to exact Global Positioning System data for app usage, such as Google Maps finding your best commute route, or Uber figuring out exactly where you're standing to let drivers know your pickup point. You can see a statement from Google below.

The Cell ID was never incorporated into Google's network sync system and all the data was "immediately discarded", the company said. If you intend to test a new feature which tracks peoples location then you should at least give them the chance to opt in our out of the test.

Quartz discovered Android phones were tracking users' locations even when they had turned off location services.

Modi govt sabotaging Winter session of Parliament: Sonia
And Mr Gandhi has been the face of the Congress campaign in various state-level polls, including in the ongoing Gujarat elections. According to the CWC schedule, the process of filing nominations will begin on December 1 and end on December 4, 2017.

This activity continued by using the same mechanism that Google uses to transmit notifications and messages to users. These addresses are included in the data that's sent to the Google system that manages messages and push notifications for smartphones running on Android.

Cell ID data only provides an approximate location of a mobile device, not a precise Global Positioning System location.

Google started collecting data from cellular towers to determine where users were located.

Quartz said a Google spokesperson confirmed the practice when confronted with the findings. A source, meanwhile, claimed that the cellular tower data was used to improve its Firebase Cloud Messaging, which needed regular pings to the server to keep messages arriving promptly. Earlier this year, we learned that the Uber app had found a way to fingerprint iOS users even after they'd deleted the Uber app, and up until late August, would track your location even after your ride was over.

More controversially, about five years ago, the company took a lot of heat after its Street View vehicles were caught collecting WiFi data from unprotected home networks.
