"When I captained India to the President's Cup in Dhaka, Dasmunshi was our team manager and Milovan was the coach".

Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind condoled the death of Dasmunsi.

The Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressed grief over the death of Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.

Das Munshi was so popular in political circles in Kolkata that during the 2016 campaign for the assembly elections he was included in the 90-member campaign committee for the state, despite him being in coma.

Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi is survived by his wife Deepa Dasmunsi and son Priyadeep Dasmuni.

Dasmunsi's body is to be taken to the Congress headquarters on Akbar Road in New Delhi, where top party leaders, including vice-president Rahul Gandhi, will pay their homage to the leader. During his time, even as the country's footballing fortunes did not really soar, the national league was instituted which Das Munshi kept alive with sponsorship that was rare in those days of thrift.

Country Music Hall of Famer Mel Tillis dies at 85

Later he was shifted to home, and in 2009 he was admitted to Apollo Hospitals.

An astute orator and and a key leader of the Congress in West Bengal as well as at the national level, Dasmunsi rose from the rank of a Youth Congress worker, who became All India Youth Congress President in 1970.

"I am deeply saddened by the death of Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi".

"He (Dasmunsi) was in coma for nearly 9 years".

Dasmunshi first entered Parliament in 1971 representing the Raiganj constituency in West Bengal.

He was the cabinet minister in Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during the first term of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. "Otherwise, he could have done more in his political life", she added.
