Fierce encounter with terrorists on in J&K's Kulgam and Pulwama districts

Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam area where an encounter between security forces and militants is underway

An Army jawan and a militant were today killed in an encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir even as security forces were engaged in a counter insurgency operation in Pulwama district.

Officials said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles along with Special Operation Group were patrolling Zachaldara area when militants fired on the forces.

Officials said the militants could be foreigners.

The other trapped militants managed to escape into a jungle area.

Paying tributes to the slain militants, Hizb chief Salahuddin, in a statement issued from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, said the ongoing struggle would continue till a logical conclusion was reached. In a second encounter on Tuesday, security forces launched a search operation in the forests of Laam-Tral area in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, after detecting suspicious militant movement in the region. "A hideout was busted and blankets were seized from the spot", said the police.

A Railway official said that rail service was suspended due to security reasons in North Kashmir where two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter with government forces on Monday evening.

The search operation continued through the night and ended today after over twenty hours.
