Former Celtic, Man United man Miller battling cancer

Liam Miller is understood to be battling cancer and has visited the US for treatment

Reports emerged on Sunday night that the 36-year-old was battling pancreatic cancer and is now receiving chemotherapy treatment in the United States. "A very young man, 36 years of age, it puts things in perspective anyway".

Miller progressed through the youth ranks at Celtic before being handed his league debut in May 2000 - a month before O'Neill took over as manager.

Fellow Corkman David Meyler added: "We heard the news but we were unsure of all the details".

Miller first came to prominence breaking through to Martin O'Neill Celtic team before joining Manchester United on a Bosman in 2004. All thoughts go out to him and his family.

Ian Harte - who played for Ireland with Miller - said: "Very sad news about one of my old teammates Liam Miller, thinking of him and his family at this very hard time".

Ex-Celtic defender Darren O'Dea, now with Dundee, said: 'All my thoughts and love with Liam Miller and his family'.
