Suspension of Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott to begin immediately after injunction denied

Ezekiel Elliott's suspension is back on for now

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott skipped his weekly media session and Thursday practice to attend his latest suspension appeal hearing. Elliott was originally suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy, which stemmed from a very tumultuous offseason experience. He will miss his team's Week 13 matchup against the Redskins.

Elliott may not have enough time to string out the legal situation in order to play Sunday in Atlanta, as he has in past weeks. In that case, Elliott would miss the Cowboys' home game against the Eagles on November 19 and would be eligible to return for the season finale, a December 31 game at Philadelphia. It wasn't immediately clear how soon the court would rule on Elliott's claim that he was treated unfairly by the NFL. He will return for Dallas' Chrismas Eve game against the Seahawks.

The bottles collected were scattered on the porch of the home where the party took place. Police said there were indicators that alcohol may have been a factor.

Elliott has bitterly contested the ban and had until Thursday successfully fought to delay the activation of the suspension, playing in all eight of the Cowboys' regular season games in 2017. Elliott has racked up 783 rushing yards so far this season, second most in the NFL.

The Cowboys running back's appeal will be heard on an expedited basis, but the suspension is on in the meantime.
