Supreme Court rejects Samsung appeal of patent loss to Apple

Three years since then, the US Supreme Court has now finally now shut down the appeal made by Samsung challenging the patent infringement.

The original case was based around Apple's iconic "Slide To Unlock" feature.

Apple initially sued Samsung in April 2011, claiming infringement of patents, trademarks, user interface and style, and Samsung immediately countersued, claiming infringement of mobile-communications patents.

Following weeks of testimony and three days of deliberations, the eight-member jury reached a decision awarding Apple $119,625,000 on three infringed patents and Samsung $158,400 on one patent.

The new payments feature will compete against a growing number of P2P payment apps like Venmo, Paypal , and several others. During your first payment the app will request your bank information to be entered, Visa and Mastercard are supported.

The Supreme Court has discarded Samsung's demand of court rulings that it impermissibly facsimiled features of Apple's iPhone The US Supreme Court on Monday repudiated to move back into the years-long dispute over patents between the world's apex smartphone creators, rejecting to take notice of Samsung's appeal of a lower court ruling, that re-established a jury award of about $120 million in favour of Apple. This feature basically turned things like phone numbers and web links to a tappable link. The verdict is now permanent, as the Supreme Court ruled today that it will hear no further appeals in the case.

But here's the amusing part: all the original phones involved in the battle have already been phased out of protection. Apple argued that there was nothing "novel or important" in Samsung's additional data regarding the case. The ruling in Apple's favour was overturned nearly two years later, but reinstated once again less than a year after that.

Apple and Samsung's history extends outside of the courts, too.

The company had noted that one of Apple's patents at issue in the case had been invalidated by courts "and yet today's decision allows Apple to unjustly profit from this patent, stunts innovation and places competition in the courtroom rather than the marketplace". Although Apple is now reducing its reliance on Samsung components for its iPhones. It's done better here than in its other patent battle concerning the design of the iPhone.
