StarCraft 2 is going free-to-play this month

StarCraft II Wings of Liberty going free-to-play Details

At BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be free from November 14th. If you already own Wings of Liberty, the second installment Heart of the Swarm will be available for free.

Also to become free to players are all co-op commanders in StarCraft II, up to level five, as well as the online ranked competitive multiplayer mode. With it, you'll be able to access ranked multiplayer, and play with the now available Co-op Commanders, including Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis. Additional single-player campaigns, and co-op commanders can be unlocked via the Blizzard Shop.

Starcraft 2 is going free to play?

Meanwhile, "the Zerg (a primitive, but ruthless insect-like army) are now on the run as Terran (human) forces pick off their dwindling numbers-but little do the Terrans know that the Zerg are merely playing possum", we wrote of the game's storyline.

Giving it the scientific name Pongo tapanuliensis , scientists have identified this first great ape species in almost 90 years. Erik Meijaard of the Australian National University said: "Great apes are among the best-studied species in the world".

Since Blizzard is giving gamers free copies of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, multiplayer will obviously also be made available to everyone.

StarCraft 2 itself is a sci-fi space opera about three warring races facing an intergalactic threat, played as a real-time strategy game.

Multiplayer updates will come to StarCraft II after Blizzcon concludes. You have to log in between November 8 and December 8 to claim that upgrade though. "With the massive Wings of Liberty single-player campaign, endlessly replayable co-op mode, prestigious ranked ladder, comprehensive map-making tools, and more, StarCraft II now delivers the ultimate real-time strategy experience completely free". Those who are not free players can also unlock the ranked ladder by purchasing any campaign or War Chest season.

For those of you who have already purchased any of the three campaigns as of October 31, we'll soon be sending you a small thank-you in the form of an exclusive Ghost skin as well as three new portraits.
