Swaraj seeks probe into Sherin's adoption

Lawyers Sini Mathews Had Nothing to Do with Sherin's Death

Sherin's father Wesley Mathews, 37, was rearrested on Monday and charged with first-degree felony injury to a child after conflicting statements to police.

In a series of tweets on Friday Sushma said that she has requested Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi to investigate the adoption procedure followed while giving away baby Saraswati (Sherin's real name) in July previous year.

He is at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in the custody of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and is placed under suicide watch.

"Wesley Mathews then physically assisted the 3-year-old girl in drinking the milk", according to a affidavit of his arrest.

Sushma Swaraj said that she has asked Anupam Roy, Consul General of India in Houston, to ensure that the murder of Sherin was taken to a logical conclusion.

The manager of the Indian orphanage where Sherin Mathews was adopted remembers the toddler was cheerful, healthy and eating well and her prospective parents eager to hear her voice a year ago. "At the same time, that information may implicate her".

Wesley, who works in an IT company, admitted to the police that he disposed of the child's body after she "choked on her milk", according to a probable cause affidavit released by police.

"Now that Mr. Mathews has turned himself in to the police and told them what happened to Sherin, we see no need for Mrs. Mathews to endure further police interrogation".

The claim that Sherin was malnourished and needed to eat at odd hours puzzles Babita Kumari, who managed the orphanage in eastern India where the girl had lived since infancy.

"I think everybody is just ready for closure and we just want her to be at peace", said resident Gauthami Vemula. Her body was discovered after over two weeks of searches by police officials in Texas on Sunday. Sherin went missing on October 7 after Wesley made her to stand outside their house because of refusing to finish her milk , As Reported By TOI.
