Twitter just booted Russian media ads offline

Federal regulations now require television and radio stations to make publicly available the details of political ads they air. That includes who runs the ad when it runs and how much it costs

Twitter also said this week it will disclose more information on political ads.

The ban will not apply to any other advertisers, Twitter said.

The Twitter logo is displayed on a screen on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., September 28, 2016.

Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, which have spent a combined $1.9m (£1.4m) on Twitter adverts, were blacklisted after an internal investigation into the two, following USA intelligence reports saying they were part of a Russian effort to disrupt last year's vote.

RT quickly hit back at Twitter over the ban, indicating that the company had approached them and asked them to "spend big on 2016 U.S. election".

Russia Today and Sputnik will still be able to "remain organic users" on Twitter, as long as they comply with the site's rules.

Indian team announced for T20 series against Kiwis
The three T20Is with New Zealand will be played in Delhi on November 1, Rakjot on November 4 and Thiruvananthapuram on November 7. The Indian selectors chose to bring in Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj for the T20I series against New Zealand .

While Facebook has been getting the bulk of attention surrounding allegations that Russian Federation actively tried to intervene in America's electoral process, Twitter and fellow tech company Google have also been working with congressional investigators on the matter. This feedback will help the company more quickly remove inappropriate ads from Twitter, and show people more relevant ads in their timeline. Twitter also faces a problem with automated accounts, or bots, that have been used to spread misinformation on its network.

The article also quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying his government would react to USA restrictions on Russian media "swiftly and symmetrically".

Sputnik, a news agency, said on its website that Twitter's move was regrettable, "especially now that Russian Federation had vowed retaliatory measures against the USA media".

The corresponding steps Twitter has taken in recent weeks to address these issues-banning 200 Russia-linked accounts, releasing new guidelines to counter harassment, ending dark ads (promoted posts that can be seen only by people who advertisers pay to target), and now banning Russian state-sponsored ads altogether-seem, to echo Warner, inadequate. Though the RT claims to be an independent editorial operation, the U.S. Justice Department recently required the company to register as a foreign agent.

Facebook and Google did not immediately respond to questions about whether they would limit Russian Federation media ad spending.

A US lawmaker, Representative Adam Schiff, applauded Twitter's move.
