IND vs NZ pitch controversy: MCA president Abhay Apte orders inquiry

India vs New Zealand ODI Pitch tampering reports ahead of match hint corruption

A groundsman has been sacked after video emerged of him allegedly agreeing to tamper with the wicket before Wednesday's one-day worldwide between India and New Zealand in Pune.

'We have asked for a detailed report and will act upon it accordingly, " the CoA Chief further said.

It added it had "zero tolerance towards any such activity".

Pandurang Salgaonkar has been suspended but the match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium began on schedule after ICC match referee Chris Broad cleared the pitch.

Pandurang Salgaonkar has been caught on camera talking to their reporters, who were disguised as bookies, revealing that the pitch will be made according to their demands. "Rest assured, if anyone found guilty, strict action will be taken", MCA president Abhay Apte was quoted as saying by India Today.

Buffon to retire at the end of the season
At that point, to try to win the Club World Cup, maybe [Wojciech] Szczęsny could play one game and me another. Would like to finish his career with a big win.

However, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhari has stated that the match will go on despite Salgaonkar's fraudulence.

In the course of a sting operation conducted by the two journalists, the 68-year-old Salgaonkar predicted the number of runs that could be scored (at one time 337 and 340 at another), that the match would be a high-scoring one and the likely first-innings score of 337 can be chased down.

The channel showed a recording of undercover reporters approaching Salgaoncar and asking for a pitch which will favour the fast bowlers. Under BCCI rules no unaccredited persons, including journalists, are allowed near the pitch. "The BCCI observer is also sitting around", Salgaoncar said.

BCCI curator Ramesh Mhamunkar has taken over Salgaonkar duties for the game.

After the vast success of the series against Australia, team India lost the opening ODI against New Zealand by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
