VA to receive almost $2.4 million in GM settlement
The settlement concluded a multi-state investigation into GM hiding safety issues from related to defects in the ignition switches of more than 9 million GM vehicles, according to the attorney general's release. The Detroit News said GM will pay out a total of $120 million.
The settlement also addresses additional GM recalls that involved unintended rotation of ignition switches.
Not represent that certified pre-owned vehicles that General Motors advertises are safe, have been repaired for safety issues, or have been subject to rigorous inspection, unless such vehicles are not subject to any open recalls relating to safety or have been repaired pursuant to such a recall.
GM has acknowledged failing to recall about 2.6 million older vehicles with defective switches until early 2014 despite having internal evidence of a safety problem for at least a decade.
The Chicago Bulls' Practice Didn't Go As Planned
Not that he didn't have his reasons, as Mirotic was a restricted free agent awaiting a contract from elsewhere or the Bulls. The fight between the two players reportedly happened during practice, and Portis allegedly punched Mirotic in the face.
The faulty switches allowed the key to move into the "off" position and disable airbags.
"The resolution includes a financial component, and assures GM will continue ongoing improvements made to ensure the safety of its vehicles", GM said. If a collision occurs while the ignition switch is in the "Accessory" or "Off" position, the vehicle's safety airbags may also fail to deploy, increasing the risk of serious injury or death in certain types of crashes in which the airbag was otherwise created to deploy.
"Among its other functions, the Global Product Integrity organization will establish processes to identify and resolve potential safety issues in the design of GM Motor Vehicles and using Design for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (or its functional equivalent) and/or strategies selected by GM to achieve the same or similar results", the consent order states. If there is a recall on any certified pre-owned vehicle sold in the US, the required fix must be completed before the vehicle is delivered to a consumer.
Assistant Attorneys General Brendan Flynn and Lorrie Adeyemi, head of the Consumer Protection Department, assisted the Attorney General with this matter.
