Kelly: 'I don't think I'm being fired today'

Trump button

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly forcefully pushed back on rumors of discord between he and President Donald Trump on Thursday, telling reporters that he has no plans to resign, nor does he have reason to believe he will be fired.

'I would just offer to you that although I read it all the time pretty consistently, I'm not quitting today, ' he said during a surprise appearance at a White House news conference.

"I have found that Mr. Trump, from the day I met him, he is a decisive guy, he is a very thoughtful man", Kelly added.

"[Gen. Kelly] puts to rest an bad lot of these rumors and this conjecture and these plain out fictions that we see every single day", she said on "The Intelligence Report". "I was not brought to this job to control anything but the flow of information to our president, so that he can make the best decisions".

"One of his frustrations is you".

Kelly noted that his current position is "the hardest job I've ever had".

"Right now we think the threat is manageable but over time if it grows beyond where it is today, well, let's hope that diplomacy works", said Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general.

"People should be concerned about a state that has developed a pretty good ICBM capability", Kelly said, addressing the threat to Guam as well as the USA mainland. "Not all of you, but many of you". It is astounding to me how much is misreported.

After his inauguration in January, he joined White House in July with Kelly, who started his office as Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, Kelly. "This is, in my view, the most important job I've ever had".

"Maybe develop some better sources", Kelly added.

He said there's already "great concern" about Americans who live in Guam.

On Thursday, Kelly took to the briefing room lectern, with surprising ease, and spoke with journalists in an apparent effort to dispel the recent negative reporting and chatter about him and his management of the West Wing. The chief of staff did so with a smile and a salute.
