When one white supremacist attempted to hit 20-year-old DeAndre #Harris with a flagpole, Harris swung a flashlight back at them.

Police in Charlottesville, Virginia Monday issued a warrant for 20-year-old DeAndre Harris, a black man who was beaten at a white nationalist rally in August.

A local magistrate issued a warrant for Deandre Harris Monday on charges of malicious wounding, after an unnamed person claimed to have been injured by him during the August 12 brawl, the local NBC affiliate reported.

The beating, which was captured on camera and quickly spiraled across the internet, occurred after a white supremacist tried to spear a counter-protester with a flag pole, the Washington Post reported in August. Two men were arrested and charged with malicious wounding for the attack. A detective went to the magistrate and confirmed the victim's claims.

The Charlottesville Police released a statement detailing the charge against Harris.

The free exercise of religion includes the right to act or not to act in accordance with one's religious beliefs. A second memo by the attorney general directs implementation of the guidance within the Department of Justice.

The magistrate had a Charlottesville detective verify the facts in the warrant.

After news broke of the arrest warrant against Harris on Monday, white nationalists openly celebrated on Twitter. Two of his attackers were charged with malicious wounding in September.

"We find it highly offensive and upsetting, but what's more jarring is that he's been charged with the same crime as the men who attacked him", he said.

One person involved in the brawl, who has not been identified by authorities, has now accused Harris of injuring him during the exchange. The warrant against Harris stems from accusations that he attacked someone, which led to the beating inside the garage. "I also have a laceration across my right eyebrow, abrasions on my knees & elbows, and a chipped tooth".

Merritt is adamant that his client was not the antagonist in the incident and noted that Harris has plans to turn himself in to the police in the days to come. Harris incurred injuries that required him to have eight staples into his head.
