Oldest member of US Senate, Dianne Feinstein, announces re-election bid at 84

Sen. Dianne Feinstein D-Calif. ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee speaks on Capitol Hill in Washington. Feinstein is giving her strongest hints so far that she’s going to seek a fifth full Senat

Sen. Dianne FeinsteinDianne Emiel FeinsteinGun proposal picks up GOP support Gingrich: Banning rapid fire gun modification is "common sense" House bill set to reignite debate on warrantless surveillance MORE (D-Calif.) announced on Monday morning that she will run for reelection in 2018.

Furthermore, Feinstein is 84, and running for reelection means that numerous younger Democratic talents in California may not have a clear opportunity to rise through the ranks. She said the change in gun laws must be permanent and codified by Congress, not addressed through regulations only. "I'm in a position where I can be effective, and hopefully that means something to California", Feinstein said.

Feinstein has been in her seat since 1992. Feinstein turned 84 on June 22 and will be 91 at the conclusion of her next term.

"Dianne's career has been one of firsts - she was the first woman President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, the first woman elected Senator of California, and the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee", the statement says.

Feinstein said she supports DACA, but acknowledged the administration's argument that the order is on shaky legal ground. Kevin de Leon, who is term-limited as the Senate president pro tempore, are also known to be angling for higher office.

They don't have Champions League-winning medals throughout this group, they don't have Premier League-winning medals. The more we can play football which excites people and scores goals, the more we will win people over.

In a series of tweets posted after the announcement on Monday, Sanberg sought to make the case that Feinstein had been too deferential to Trump, and that with deep-blue California " leading the resistance" on the state level, "we need representatives willing to do the same in D.C".

Feinstein's old-school political sensibilities and foreign policy could be at odds with California, where increasingly young and diverse voters have demanded all-out opposition to Trump.

I am running for reelection to the Senate.

The rising liberal star Sen.

Asked about a poll that half of California voters don't think she should run, she added: "Oh look".
