Football Legend, Hall of Famer YA Tittle Dies, 90

Be that as it may, Tittle never really played for the Lions since he chose to begin his profession on the East Coast with the Baltimore Colts of the AAFL.

Tittle played for the Baltimore Colts, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants in a 17-season career from 1948 to 1964 during which he played in seven Pro Bowls.

Tittle, who was just two weeks away from his 91st birthday, spent 10 seasons with the 49ers from 1951 through 1960.

Tittle still remains tied with seven other players - including Peyton Manning and Drew Brees - for the most touchdown passes (seven) in a single game in National Football League history.

Y.A. Tittle was a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback for the 49ers, Colts and Giants.

When Tittle left San Francisco, he went to NY to play for the Giants for the last four seasons of his career.

He led the Giants to three straight championship games but was unable to win a title.

Y.A. Tittle died Sunday night at the age of 90.

The next season, Tittle broke the NFL single-season record by passing for 36 touchdowns, becoming the first player in league history to have at least 30 TD passes in consecutive seasons. In a 1962 amusement against the Redskins, Tittle tossed for 505 yards and seven touchdowns, which were incredible numbers in a period known for wounding running backs.

Tittle was a two-time All-SEC quarterback for the Tigers in the 1940s, setting passing records at the university that stood for years.

Tittle's final season in 1964 is mostly remembered as the year he ended up in one of the most iconic photos of all-time: A bloodied Tittle kneeled on the field after throwing a pick-six. Tittle was suffering from severe dementia.

Over his career, Tittle passed for 28,339 yards with 212 touchdowns and 221 interceptions.
