VP Pence to Hold National Space Council Meeting in Virginia

Vice President Mike Pence waves from Air Force Two

The announcement joins the revival of the National Space Council, a special Trump administration resurrection slated to hold its first meeting in nearly a quarter of a century.

'Not only to leave behind footprints and flags, but to build the foundations we need to send Americans to Mars and beyond'. It will be chaired by Vice President Mike Pence and include participation by acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot, as well as a number of Trump Administration cabinet members and senior officials, and aerospace industry leaders.

Orbital ATK's Thompson said the USA should be able to put astronauts on the moon within five years through such vehicles.

Pence served on the NASA subcommittee during his days in the House of Representatives, and has spoken often about watching rocket launches on TV as a child.

"Business is leading the way on space technology, and we intend to draw from the bottomless well of innovation to solve the challenges ahead", Pence said.

Gareth Bale could miss Spurs game with injury worse than feared
Bale faces being ruled out for up to four weeks which makes him a doubt for potential World Cup playoffs next month. Wales are now in second place in Group D, four points behind leaders Serbia and one point above the Republic.

Pence said that along with space exploration, the Trump administration wants NASA to renew America's commitment to creating the space technology needed to protect national security.

Pence pledged that the Trump administration, with the help of the NSC, will develop and implement a coherent, long-term USA space strategy.

But it could be some time before we know how the Trump administration plans to lead in space again. Second, Pence identifies America as the "first nation" to send humans to Mars. Perhaps we'll see some changes to the budget later this year, or perhaps with the president's budget request early next year. Pence also stressed the importance of commercial companies maintaining a permanent presence in lower Earth orbit so that NASA could focus on deep-space missions. In addition, he noted, the country has had to pay Russian Federation to ferry US astronauts to the International Space Station since the space shuttle retired in 2011. The Space Shuttle program was terminated in 2011, during the Obama administration.

"America must lead in space once again", he said.

There's no indication of when NASA may put people back on the moon, nor whether there are any concrete plans in place to make this a reality.
