Motive for Las Vegas concert massacre baffles investigators

Stephen Paddock, 64, rained bullets on attendees of a country music festival in Las Vegas from a nearby hotel on Sunday night (local time), killing 59 and injuring more than 500.

One rifle is also seen on the floor of the hotel room with a crime scene tag next to it.

Officials also found 12 bump fire stocks in the hotel room that simulate automatically fire, but don't alter the firearm to fire automatically, she said.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said officers searching the house in Mesquite, Nevada recovered "in excess of 18 additional firearms, some explosives and several thousand rounds of ammo, along with some electronic devices we're evaluating at this point".

Marilou Danley, the Filipina-Australian girlfriend of Las Vegas mass-murderer Stephen Paddock, is being interviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in Los Angeles.

Ms Danley is an Australian citizen and her sisters there said they believed she was "sent away" by Paddock to the Philippines a week before the shooting. "In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister's life". He likely had a large suite or more than one room.

Iran, Turkey vow to boost military ties amidst Kurds' independence move
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who also met with Erdogan, said "the referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan was a betrayal". As the Iraq war unfolded in 2003, and later the crisis in Syria, Turkey grew concerned over American support to Iraqi Kurds.

Whatever Paddock's motive, authorities said he planned the attack methodically, not only stockpiling almost two dozen guns in his hotel room but setting up cameras in the peephole and on a service cart outside his door, apparently to watch for police closing in on him.

A statement by Las Vegas police revealed that the suspected shooter who fired into the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel was later found dead in his hotel room. There was reason to believe that Paddock had a history of psychological problems, one official said.

Marilou Danley broke her silence on Thursday, a day after being flown from her holiday in the Philippines to Los Angeles for questioning.

Speaking at a press conference, he said law enforcement authorities are in communication with Danley and anticipate "some information here from her shortly".

John Cohen, a former Department of Homeland Security undersecretary who previously worked as a police officer, said that recordings of the shooting suggest that the shooter used an automatic weapon.
