Coroner fails to determine exact cause of Warmbier's death

Otto Warmbier

An Ohio coroner who examined the body of 22-year-old University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier says he died from a lack of oxygen and blood to his brain, but she can't determine how the injury occurred.

USA student Otto Warmbier speaks at a news conference in this undated photo released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang February 29, 2016.

The coroner's report concluded that the cause of death was severe brain damage arising from an unknown instance of oxygen deprivation.

According to this report, Otto Warmbier presented some minor signs on his body, but nothing that indicated a torture.

He was arrested in January 2016 and sentenced to 15 years hard labour for allegedly stealing the poster. Warmbier was released in June after 17 months in North Korean custody and died in a USA hospital a few days later.

He added: "They kidnapped Otto, they tortured him, they intentionally injured him". "No mother, no parent should ever have gone through what we went through".

"One of a few things likely happened here - and we may never know, especially if there's no autopsy", Gupta, who is also a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners and a practicing neurosurgeon, said in June.

It also said Otto's nose and ears showed "no remarkable alteration" and his body was "well-developed, well-nourished", reports the Cincinnati Enquirer. He was blind. He was deaf.

Fred Warmbier said Tuesday that his son "was jerking violently, making these inhuman sounds", when he was returned, but Sammarco said his condition was likely caused by "chronic brain damage".

Russian Federation denies it killed civilians in air strikes on Syria's Idlib
Abdallah said Syrian regime forces carried out additional bombardment of SDF positions after the initial Russian bombing.

As the Warmbier's opened up for the first time since their son's death, Neack believes several other US families are watching closely.

It has denied allegations of torture and said that Warmbier's illness was a result of contracting botulism, a form of bacterial poisoning.

The report - an external examination, not an autopsy - describes a 4.3-by-1.6-inch scar on Warmbier's right foot.

"I can tell you that we didn't see any evidence of trauma to the teeth", Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said.

"Great interview on @foxandfriends with the parents of Otto Warmbier: 1994 - 2017".

However, three Americans accused of various crimes against the state, remain behind bars in North Korea, which is now engaged in a tense stand-off with the Trump administration, over its nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes.

Mr Revere said in his experience the North Korean leadership had channels for getting information in and out, information which gave them a picture of what the United States thinks, but that information could get distorted when communicated to the regime. Trump administration officials have said they are reviewing whether North Korea will again be placed on the list.

Fred Warmbier said they were shocked when they first saw their son upon his return home.

Sammarco said that her team discussed a potential autopsy.
