Uber CEO apologises for 'mistakes' after company hit with London ban

Florida Uber Driver Helps Save Man's Life After Ride to Bridge

Uber's new CEO has apologized for the ride-hailing company's conduct in the wake of a decision by a governmental agency to pull Uber's permits to give rides in London.

Meanwhile Reuters reports that key Uber rival Lyft could well be on their way into Britain: "Lyft, Uber's closest us rival in the taxi-hailing business, met repeatedly with officials from London's transport regulator over the past year, a sign it may be targeting the city for global expansion", it reported. "On behalf of everyone at Uber globally, I apologise for the mistakes we've made", Khosrowshahi wrote.

The city's transportation agency said last week it would not renew Uber's license when it expires September 30, citing a lack of corporate responsibility and concern for public security.

Uber has 40,000 drivers in London which make up one third of the city's total number of private hire vehicles.

Councils have this week declared that outdated taxi laws need to be urgently reformed following Transport for London's (TfL's) decision to revoke taxi giant Uber's trading license in the capital.

It worked in Chicago as recently as past year, where Alderman Anthony Beale, who fought unsuccessfully to more tightly regulate Uber, said the company used Uber riders and political connections to win - at least so far - a fight over fingerprint background checks of drivers.

Uber through a series of tweets said that it would challenge the decision in court.

Uber drivers like James Farrar, the chairman of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain's United Private Hire Drivers branch, wondered how they would pay their bills. "This ban would show the world that, far from being open, London is closed to innovative companies who bring choice to consumers".

Kelly was slammed by many critics for utterly failing to connect with the audience following her first installment. Megyn Kelly premiered her 2nd new show on NBC Monday morning and by many accounts, it was an awkward experience.

London's traditional "black cab" drivers have long campaigned against the service, and welcomed Friday's decision. The apology comes after Transport for London decided not to renew its license to operate.

In the years since it began operations, Uber has faced regulatory and legal setbacks around the world.

It is worth noting that in other major United Kingdom cities such as Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester Uber continues to function without an issue. The authority also regrets the use of a software allowing the drivers to avoid being identified in areas where they do not have the right to operate and provide medical certificates not reliable.

Some 3.5 million passengers and 40,000 drivers use the Uber app in London.

"This was one of the odd things around the TfL notice yesterday is they are the ones who do all of the checks and license the drivers".

Among those supporting TfL's decision was London's Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The company's license to operate in the British capital expires on September 30.
