Expect delays: Air traffic glitch could impact Rockhampton flyers today

Flights were briefly prevented from taking off and landing at Sydney Airport's domestic terminal

Authorities are expecting a backlog of delayed flights at Sydney Airport to clear after a computer glitch forced the cancellation of dozens of flights this morning.

The outage comes on the first day of New South Wales school holidays.

Airservices Australia said the incident was down to a software failure and not a cyberattack.

"Our technicians are now working to rectify the situation", ASA said.

Dozens of flights were cancelled, with many people experiencing delays of more than two hours.

As a result Air Services Australia (ASA) reduced traffic capacity to ensure safety standards were maintained. "Please check with your airline for flight status", the airport's official account said.

Trump claims Chinese banks won't do business with North Korea
Trump said the measure would also disrupt other trade avenues for North Korea in efforts to halt its nuclear weapons program. Believe it or not, Kim's statement actually used gentler language than his propaganda specialists have favored in the past.

ASA said there had been a "system software failure" at Sydney's air traffic control.

Anyone planning to travel out of Mascot Airport is being urged to check their flight and airline to see if it has been affected.

"Virgin Australia is working to have all guests on their way as quickly and safely as possible".

If you are scheduled to fly today, contact your airline flight times with your airline or keep an eye on the Rockhampton Airport Website here.

Brisbane Airport passengers have also reported delays, although it has not been confirmed if they are directly related to Sydney.
