Moeen Ali hit the second fastest one-day worldwide century in England's history to set up a win over West Indies by 124 runs.

Ali, who arrived with England 210-5 and wobbling at the County Ground, devastated the West Indian bowling with the second fastest ODI century by an Englishman.

Joe Root and Ben Stokes countered though and put on 132 for the fourth wicket, both motoring past 50 before Stokes (73 from 63 balls) holed out, looking to push things on once more.

Back-to-back sixes brought up his fifty from 41 balls and that was just the start.

Gayle's third six, off Moeen, had taken him past his 50 by then - but when Adil Rashid came up with the direct hit from midwicket to run out the "Universe Boss" a whisker short of the line chancing a quick single, West Indies were up against it.

U.S. hints at new military options on North Korea
Even as tensions rise, the United States and its allies have stuck to a hands-off policy when North Korea test-fires its missiles.

Stokes hit Ashley Nurse for back-to-back sixes but succumbed to Rovman Powell before Miguel Cummins (3-82) bowled Jos Buttler with a beauty and removed Root to leave England 217-6.

Root and Stokes took over until, for the second time in the innings, two wickets fell in consecutive overs.

Earlier, England one-day captain Eoin Morgan's run of low scores continued when he was caught behind for a first-ball nought by a Holder delivery that cut away off the pitch.

Though the visitors might have nothing to lose, the likely return of star players like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels and Sunil Narine might be the much needed shot in the arm for a West Indies side that is a pale shadow of the team that dominated world cricket in the 70's and 80's.

By contrast, Test skipper Root is enjoying a run-laden summer. He completed the job with his eighth six in the space of just 14 balls out of 369 for nine - England's highest total against the Windies.
