Iranian president rips into Trump as a 'rogue newcomer' to world politics

Is new Persian Gulf nuclear crisis coming

"I don't think you've heard the last of it, believe me", Trump said.

KELEMEN: The European Union's foreign policy chief who chaired the meeting described it as frank, but Federica Mogherini says all sides agreed that so far the deal is being implemented.

On Wednesday, Trump told reporters that he had reached a decision, but did not elaborate.

Asked about his stance on the nuclear pact Wednesday, Trump said he had made a decision.

Under the nuclear deal, Iran surrendered much of its enriched uranium, dismantled a reactor and submitted nuclear sites to United Nations inspection, while Washington and Europe lifted some sanctions.

Trump made his maiden speech before the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, addressing issues like terrorism, North Korea's nuclear program and the Iran deal.

Zarif, who had a friendly, collegial relationship with former Secretary of State John Kerry while they negotiated the nuclear deal, was quick to denounce Trump's speech.

Senior Senate Democrats have been urging the administration to send the secretary of state, the director of national intelligence, the defense secretary and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and potentially the energy and treasury secretaries, to Capitol Hill sometime before October 6 to brief senators about Iran's behavior under the nuclear deal.

Iran's foreign minister responded to Trump's speech on Twitter, calling it "ignorant" and belonging "in the medieval times".

Rowhani then told reporters at a news conference that the Iranian people are waiting for an apology from Trump for his "extremely offensive" rhetoric and baseless allegations.

TILLERSON: As a long-time negotiator, I learned to never say never.

He is totally in the game, which is putting him in a position that he has everything to become a really, really good player. I like him as a player but sometimes he gets happy with the few things that he does when I want him to push the borders.

"There was no yelling and we didn't throw shoes at one another", he said.

He twice mentioned ancient Iranian gestures of friendship toward the Jews as exemplars of the current regime's alleged commitment to diversity.

United States officials said Trump is still weighing his next moves and plans to announce his intentions next month. North Korea conducted a series of provocative launches in recent months, including a pair of intercontinental missiles believed capable of striking the continental United States and another pair that soared over Japanese territory.

"The United Nations has tremendous potential and we'll see how it works out".

The U.S. could give Iran 90 days to meet certain new conditions, including opening military sites to global inspectors, according to a memo obtained by Foreign Policy.

As he met Monday with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump was asked if he would pull the US out of the agreement. So you know, we were asking the president Hassan Rouhani about this, and he said, look; these are things that were negotiated over a long period of time. We will strengthen our missile capabilities.

Trump, who on Tuesday called the 2015 worldwide accord "an embarrassment", said he had made up his mind whether to keep the pact but declined to disclose his decision.

"On the other (hand), domestic politics very much drives Iran's relationship with the U.S., and Rouhani has a big hard-line contingency among the country's elite who fear the United States wants a regime change that he has to consider".

And he made the point that the deal is not just the purview of the United States, but was arrived at by a number of countries. Berlin's top diplomat also said he hoped Iran would play a greater role in fostering a more peaceful Middle East.

He added that the world was made less safe by the Iran agreement as it stands, particularly at a time when the USA and its allies are being threatened directly by a nuclear-armed North Korea. As attested to by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and all other signatories to the agreement - including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Russia - Iran is fully compliant with its obligations under the JCPOA.
