Pep Guardiola Hopeful Ilkay Gundogan Injury Not Serious

In an official release, City refused to state a return date, but did confirm that there the Club's medical staff have found no significant damage to the player's knee and he is expected back in training in the coming days.

Gundogan returned to training and made his first appearance when he came on as a substitute in City's 6-0 win over Watford on 16 September.

Leroy Sane's double earned City a 2-1 League Cup third round win at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, but the victory was tarnished when Gundogan limped off in the second half.

That goal arrived after Ben Foster saved from Gundogan, who was cut down at the end of a driving 54th-minute run by Claudio Yacob and was unable to continue.

CITY midfielder Ilkay Gundogan picked up ANOTHER injury - on his first start since returning from a lengthy lay-off.

Fears that Gundogan had suffered another severe setback were quelled by boss Pep Guardiola, who told reporters after watching Leroy Sane complete a match-winning brace that the injury was "not serious". Unfortunately, the action [tackle] was tough. "He will be back soon hopefully", Guardiola said.

As if your sympathy hadn't already gone out to him, we'd urge you to read this insanely good piece from Rory Smith for the New York Times which documents Gundogan's long, lonely road to recovery in the grim aftermath of his aforementioned rupture. It's from behind but I don't know if he touched the ball or not. I didn't see the image.

On Thursday morning it was reported Gundogan will "be back soon", although there were no specific details given on how many games he will miss this time. 'You can not imagine what it's like for months, every day alone or just with the physio not in the locker room.
