Kenya's judges condemn 'savage' intimidation following election ruling

Wolfsburg fire head coach Andries Jonker

Kenya's highest judge has denounced attacks by President Kenyatta and his supporters after the Supreme Court overturned his election win and warned that those inciting violence will be "held personally responsible".

Mwilu also said the IEBC announced results based on tallies documented in the Form 34Bs, totals from constituencies, without having received totals from each polling station, on forms known as 34As.

They also castigated the IEBC for defying an order to open its systems for scrutiny something that would have helped debunk Nasa claims that it was hacked.

While a petition has been filed against two Supreme Court judges, accusing them of professional misconduct for allegedly being in touch with lawyers representing Odinga during the election case.

Police in Kenya's capital of Nairobi have sealed off roads near the country's Supreme Court as judges prepare to issue a detailed ruling on why they invalidated last month's presidential poll results. The electoral commission announced the victor of the presidential election even though it was missing thousands of scanned copies of forms used to compile the presidential results at the constituency, said the judgment. As an indictment of the electoral commission and a statement of the supremacy of law, it was searing and inspiring.

United States could stay in Paris accord under right conditions: Tillerson
In August, State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert told CNN that the incidents began in late 2016, and had ended that month. It hard to believe that the Cuban government would have resorted to armed propaganda by attacking USA embassy staff in Havana.

OT-Morpho said an internal audit of its equipment conducted after the Supreme Court annulled the August 8 presidential election found no foul play.

President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to respect the ruling although he has repeatedly criticised it harshly. "On that ground alone and on the basis of the interpretation we have given to Section 83 of the Elections Act, we have no choice but to nullify it", said Mwilu.

She said that while voting day had gone off smoothly on August 8, the "system thereafter went opaquely awry". Providing details today about the ruling that nullified the vote earlier this month, deputy chief justice Philomena Mwilu said the court accepted the opposition's claim that the electronic voting system was "infiltrated and compromised". Its status as a diplomatic, trade and security hub for East Africa means the court's ruling and preparation for the fresh election, now scheduled for October 17, are being closely watched for signs of instability or violence. "Failure by the board to do as ordered must be held against it". Maraga said the opposition had failed to show evidence Kenyatta had campaigned using state resources or undue influence.

Also on Tuesday, police also used tear gas to disperse supporters of the ruling party protesting outside the Supreme Court.
