Equifax Breach Worsens: Argentina Branch Used 'Admin' As Login And Password

Social insecurity: You and me and the Equifax breach

Credit monitoring company Equifax says a cyber attack exposed the social security numbers and other sensitive information of about 143 million Americans.

About 1.1 million Iowans are affected by a major data breach of credit reporting company Equifax, the state's attorney general said this week. "We urge Iowans to take advantage of that", Greenwood said. According to the Equifax announcement, the information involved includes names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver's license numbers.

The company and its competitors, TransUnion and Experian, gauge how much of a risk people are for borrowing money. Personally, I trust IDShield (www.CEOIdentity.com).

What should you do if you've been unable to place a credit freeze online? Just click enroll on the page that tells you you may be a victim. Equifax is apparently offering one-year identity monitoring for free; however, the effects of this breach will go on and on for years to come. A security freeze (also known as a "credit freeze") locks your credit file so that no one can see your credit report or credit score unless you lift the freeze.

The U.S. Consumer Protection Bureau provides a webpage on identity theft protection following the Equifax data breach.

In the wake of the data hack, experts say it's important people use unique passwords and avoid using debit cards- instead- use credit cards, which are easier to track.

Treasury's Mnuchin says no tax cut for wealthy
A treasury spokesperson told ABC that Mnuchin lodged his honeymoon travel request out of a desire to uphold security standards. The commenter, OR resident Jennifer Miller, wrote an op-ed for CNN saying Linton was the one who is out of touch.

But a credit freeze is problematic for people who need to keep their credit report open as they need to secure a loan, perhaps buy a home or a auto.

Request a copy of your credit report as soon as possible in order to identify what is on your report before any potential theft has occurred. "It's the new normal", said Fincke.

"Really? How many people have been affected by this?"

Check your credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies: Visit annualcreditreport.com to check your credit reports for free to check for suspicious activity; each credit reporting agency must give you a free copy once a year.

It seems the only thing Equifax has done right so far, is finally removing their charge to freeze your credit report. If you want to start putting a freeze on your credit over & over as data breaches will happen again & again.
