In book, Clinton admits mistakes, casts blame for 2016 loss

06 2017 shows former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaking at the Eighth Annual Women in the World Summit at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City

During an interview with Jane Pauley on CBS Sunday Morning, she said she was "done with being a candidate".

"He was quite successful in referencing a nostalgia that would give hope, comfort, settle grievances for millions of people who were upset about gains that were made by others", Clinton said.

"It was a gift", Pauley said, nodding her head and smiling. I was just gobsmacked.

Hillary Clinton is admitting to more than one mistake in her losing campaign for president.

"I just felt this enormous let down, just kind of loss of feeling and direction and sadness", Ms Clinton said. "Every few minutes, Bill would repeat what he had been saying all morning: 'I'm so proud of you, ' " she remembers.

Choking back tears, Clinton described the pain of attending Trump's inauguration - and listening to her victorious opponent's speech, which she called a "cry from the white nationalist gut".

By sunrise, though, the public still hadn't heard from her. But she's not done with politics, she assured.

Names and faces
In first television interview since her defeat, Hillary Clinton opens up on what went wrong in 2016

"How are you?" And as if she was approaching a triggering topic, the CBS host asked Clinton for permission to talk about Election Day, 2016.

"It was so, just, discombobulating", Clinton said. "At the same time he does that about a closed investigation, there's an open investigation into the Trump campaign and their connections with Russian Federation".

"Why do you think that word "deplorable" was circulating in your mind?" "I can't understand it".

It is important that Clinton brought up the Access Hollywood tape because America can't be allowed to normalize and forget about the fact that the man who is occupying the Oval Office bragged about sexually assaulting women. He says, "Boy, it's so much harder than I thought it would be". This is really tough. "I had no idea". "It's real. It's reality for sure", she said. She is scheduled to make a number of televised appearances this week to promote her memoir, "What Happened", which is to be released on Tuesday.

This week, Clinton is scheduled to appear on ABC's "The View" and the popular center-left podcast "Pod Save America", and she will attend a book signing in NY.

Diane Hessen, the author of the internal study, found that after Clinton's remark, "all hell broke loose" among the group of voters she was tracking at the time.
