SF is playing political games’ Fianna Fáil’s Éamon Ó Cúiv

"Unless agreement can be found very quickly then London will be required to take decisions", Foster said in a speech to supporters in a Belfast hotel on Thursday evening.

"Northern Ireland simply can not continue without democratic oversight and that means the speedy introduction of direct rule if agreement is not reached", she warned.

Mr Brokenshire holds discussions with the Ulster and the Democratic Unionists, nationalist SDLP, cross-community Alliance Party and Sinn Fein on Monday on whether to initiate another round of talks.

Outstanding issues in dispute between the parties include legal protection for the Irish language and dealing with violence from Northern Ireland's past. "Whether that be marriage rights, language rights, economic rights or cultural rights", she said.

"The issue of a parallel process has been discussed and rejected throughout the course of all the negotiations we have had to date", Michelle O'Neill, Sinn Fein's leader in Northern Ireland, said in a statement.

Foster said the DUP was willing to support "practical measures for the Irish language. if we can reach a wider agreement on these matters".

The Creggan councillor said: "RTÉ reports that Jeffrey Donaldson "gave the example of Sinn Féin wanting 10 per cent of all public jobs to go to Irish speakers".

"We also agree to bring forward legislation to address culture and language issues in Northern Ireland within a time-limited period to be agreed".

Arlene Foster says she is willing to deal with key stumbling blocks like the Irish Language, but only after the parties resume their roles in the Stormont executive and assembly.

Laying out her plan last night, Arlene Foster said the North hasn't time for more talks....
