Chelsea given boost on Leicester star pursuit

Chelsea confident of agreeing deal for Antonio Conte's fifth summer signing

Chelsea have been chasing the former Juventus star since the January transfer window and were hoping to wrap up a deal before today's deadline, but reports now claim that Spurs could hijack the deal.

Chelsea manager Anontio Conte - set to miss out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the Arsenal man close to sealing a Liverpool move - is keen to sign the England global as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, who went to Manchester United for £40million earlier this summer.

Thus, Chelsea have proposed half of that fee and feel that Barkley could be a highly useful player at Stamford Bridge.

Hurricane Harvey: Explosion risk at chemical plant forces evacuations

Elsewhere, Tottenham are reported to have entered the race to sign Swansea striker Llorente by offering £15million for the Spaniard.

Chelsea are also interested in the 32-year-old, who scored an impressive 15 goals for the Swans last season as they avoided relegation.

However, the English midfielder is understood to be aware of Chelsea's interest in him, and is quite determined to ensure he joins them. Furthermore, if the deal goes through, this could be a good move for Drinkwater since he will be making a step up to one of the best clubs in Europe. The Spaniard worked with Conte at Juventus during the 2013/14 season.
