US Open no-show list growing

Murray returning to Sam Querrey of the United States during their Men's Singles Quarterfinal Match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London

Tennis' world number two Andy Murray has been forced to pull out from the U.S. Open because of his troublesome hip injury.

Nineteen-times grand slam champion Roger Federer does not believe the gruelling professional tennis schedule should be shortened, despite a rash of injuries, including to some marquee names.

He has not played a match since July 12 at Wimbledon, where he was the defending champion and clearly was hampered by his hip during a five-set quarterfinal loss to Sam Querrey.

He now joins the list of high profile absentees at the US Open this year - Novak Djokovic, Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic. "Is normal that we are still playing, we try our best, but it's normal that we have more troubles during this".

"That's why he works so hard is to get on the court, it's not for the money or anything else, it's playing tennis matches and figuring out opponents, fighting, and it's a real shame that opportunity has been taken away at this tournament and maybe more weeks or months to follow".

Trump says 'massive' cheering crowd proves he was right to pardon Arpaio
The people went insane when I said, "What do you think of Sheriff Joe?" or something to that effect. Trump praised Arpaio in a White House press conference Monday where he defended his pardon .

Murray withdrew with a sore left hip from the year's final Grand Slam that starts Monday on the NY hardcourts, joining 2016 victor Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, 2014 runner-up Kei Nishikori and Canada's Milos Raonic among the injured. We were hoping that by taking a few weeks off and resting and rehabbing and really reducing the load that I was putting through it, I would be okay by the time US Open came around. I obviously spoke to a lot of hip specialists. It was more a question of whether it would settle down.

"But obviously I'll need to make the correct decision and really think it through these next couple of days with my team". I kind of ran out of time... The path to the title for Nadal and Federer has been eased. And he's back in the role of Grand Slam title favorite after winning the past two majors he entered, the Australian Open in January and Wimbledon in July.

"This is actually why I didn't want to comment here...."

The 2014 U.S. Open champion, Marin Cilic, has been sidelined by a foot blister and also hasn't played since Wimbledon but he plans to give it a go at the Open. "If it means I can play before the end of the year, then that's what I would love to do". "I've been practicing here and competitive in practice when I'm not moving close to how I can when I'm healthy". I miss competing, and I'll try to get myself back on court as soon as I can.

German Philipp Kohlschreiber moves into Querrey's spot and will open against American Tim Smyczek.
