NBA Store hawks Isaiah Thomas Cavaliers apparel, as deal hangs in balance

Mad Chatter Don't pack your bags for L.A. quite yet LeBron A vote for Tanner Lee as college football's breakout star Hot-seat coaches

Irving, 25, who requested the trade last month, would have to return to a Cavs team after requesting a trade. The results of Thomas' tests did not please the Cavaliers.

Cleveland has until Thursday to decide if they will still accept the trade or veto it.

Trading with the Celtics for an injured Isaiah Thomas may have stung the Cavaliers a bit.

The injury to Thomas's hip was well known, however, this report suggests that the injury is worse than the Cavs were expecting. The one bit of solace the Cleveland Cavaliers can take is that he does not need surgery to fix his hip, according to Mass Live. They replaced Kyrie Irving with the only available point guard that is close to his stature in Isaiah Thomas. As Thomas' injury certainly casts a cloud over the conclusion of this trade, the Cavs are hoping for an extra asset to sweeten the deal, and reduce the risk. The speculation now would be that the Cavaliers believe that surgery is necessary and that Thomas would miss much more of the season than originally feared.

Additional draft picks could be sought out by the Cavaliers.

For the Celtics' part, they would not want to give up Irving.

Isaiah Thomas, who probably won't make the Hall of Fame like the players above, was Boston's current representation of toughness and grit.

On Monday, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com tweeted that the Cavs had made "no request" of added compensation for the trade as of Sunday afternoon. When the Jazz played the Celtics in early January, he did not take too kindly to the fact that his own fans were cheering for Hayward, who would be his replacement.

Either way, the blockbuster trade involving Irving, Thomas et al is at the crossroads. Cleveland was in talks to trade Shumpert and his $10.3 million contract to Minnesota or Houston, but both deals fell apart.

In 2009, the Oklahoma City Thunder backed out of a deal that involved Tyson Chandler after a doctor deemed that the veteran centre was at a high risk of re-injuring his left big toe.

The same goes for Kyrie Irving with the Celtics.

Boston still has a large quantity of desire draft picks and young players that could help New Orleans if they decide to undergo another rebuild after the season, making them Davis' most likely destination should he ask to be traded.
