Stabbing spree in Finland leaves two dead, several injured

There is no official confirmation of the number of casualties

A man has reportedly been shot by police after he stabbed a number of people in the city of Turku, Finland.

"At this stage, there is only one suspect and we are investigating whether there are more people involved. but it looks likely (he was alone)", Markus Laine from the National Bureau of Investigation said. People are asked to leave and avoid the center of Turku.

At least one person was seen lying on the ground at Turku's Puutori market square on Friday afternoon and others were reported to be hurt, according to YLE Uutiset, the main news programme of Finland's public broadcaster.

One man was killed and another injured in a stabbing in the western German city of Wuppertal on Friday police said, adding that the attacker was still on the loose.

The emergency services said a woman injured in the Cambrils attack has died, bringing the total to 14 in both attacks. "We saw a man on the square and a knife glittered", Laine was quoted as saying.

Finland's top police chief Seppo Kolehmainen said it was too early to link the stabbings to terrorism.

The stabbing happened at around 1245 GMT in the city's Elberfeld area.

No further Barcelona offer for Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele
But judging by Watzke's words a deal for the 20-year-old France global is still a long way off. Dembele has since been suspended indefinitely by the club for his actions.

Multiple ambulances, fire engines, and police cars are attending the centre of the city, which is 90 miles west of Helsinki.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs says there are no reports of any Irish citizens being affected at this stage.

Although police have not confirmed any fatalities in the incident, the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat's website posted a photograph from the scene showing numerous police near a body covered with a sheet.

The motive of the suspect or suspects was not immediately known. She didn't witness the actual attack, but heard sirens going past. He was just turning around, flinging his knife everywhere.

Finland's government was closely monitoring the police investigation into the attack, Prime Minister Juha Sipila said.

The attack prompted police to boost patrols across the country, and security has been tightened at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport and train stations.
