BBCI: Iran votes to boost military defence by $500m

Iran Allocates $520Mln for Missile Program in Response to New US Sanctions - AFP

Iranian MPs shouted "death to America" after Speaker Ali Larijani announced the result of the vote.

Of the members present, 240 parliamentarians out of 244 voted in favour of passing the bill.

The vote came in reaction to legislation passed by the US Congress and signed by US President Donald Trump in early August to impose new sanctions on Iran over its missile programme.

Iran's parliament has overwhelmingly voted to increase spending on its ballistic missile program and its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in response to recent new American sanctions.

Washington and European countries that negotiated the Iran nuclear deal have called the missile tests violations of the spirit of the 2015 accord, but not its letter.

Iranian officials have said the country's missile programme was for deterrent purposes.

Deaths Reported After Balloon Obesity Treatments
The patients all went under the knife earlier this year to get FDA-approved liquid-filled balloons fitted in a bid to lose weight. The liquid-filled intragastric balloon systems have been used as a treatment for obesity, said the FDA alert issued on Thursday.

It also took into account America's enmity towards the Iranian government and people and their interests through supporting terrorism and violent extremism, as well as taking adventurous actions, creating divisions, and stoking sectarianism.

Devising the Sunday motion, the Parliament took great care not to violate the nuclear accord and provide excuses for opposing sides, spokesman for Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said.

Iran denies developing ballistic missiles created to carry nuclear weapons in violation of the agreement and has accused the United States of breaking its word by imposing fresh sanctions.

According to the bill, Iran's combined government and military apparatus is tasked with devising a comprehensive strategic plan to counter the "US threats" within a period of six months following ratification of the bill.

A number of recent close encounters between U.S. ships and Iranian vessels in the Gulf have added to the tensions between the two countries.
