EPL: Rooney's goal lifts Everton

Kurt Zouma made his Stoke debut on Saturday

Rooney scored the first of his Premier League goals for Everton with a sublime strike against Arsenal as a 16-year-old in 2002.

"Wayne is back and he is showing his quality to the players", the Blues boss told evertontv.

It was the former Manchester United captain's first goal for his boyhood club since 2004, and Goodison Park shook to its foundations when the ball hit the back of the net.

That's why we signed Wayne, expecting to show his team-mates all that experience and it was really important.

"Today a good Stoke team made it hard but it's important you win".

"We need to find other ways and we need to find productivity from other players".

Everton's position has been weakened by long-term injuries to key players in defenders Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori, plus midfielder Yannick Bolasie although Koeman is more concerned about adding to a list of specialist forwards which only consists of 22-year-old Spanish signing Sandro. "We don't have really a lot more options in our team".

On second day, Nawaz Sharif's rally gets mixed response
Lawmaker Shahid Khaqan Abbasi replaced the three-time prime minister Sharif after the Supreme Court's July 28 ruling. The election on the National Assembly seat will be held on September 17.

For me personally, to win a trophy at the club I've grown up supporting would be great.

"Maybe a little bit more nervous than normally they are and also the way Stoke play, defending-wise they make it hard".

Stoke manager Mark Hughes also struck a frustrated if philosophical figure after the match, admitting Rooney's goal felt somewhat inevitable.

Quiet for much of the opening 45 minutes, the homegrown hero exploded into life with a well-taken victor in first-half stoppage-time.

It was October 15 before Stoke collected their first league win last season, September 26 the season before that and September 29 the campaign before that.

"Maybe that was the reason we didn't play well but I think the second half was much better".

"He was always going to be part of the story today".
