North Atlantic Treaty Organisation soldier, 3 Afghan civilians killed in Taliban attack

No mercy on those committing terror acts: Afghan President

The shops in the building were closed when the attack took place.

A US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the soldier killed appeared not to be American, citing initial reports, but provided no further details and said that information could change as more details come in.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but Western officials say most insider attacks stem from personal grudges and cultural misunderstandings rather than insurgent plots.

The wounded were all in stable condition and being treated in the United States military hospital at the Bagram airfield north of Kabul, Salvin said.

The Pentagon has identified two soldiers killed in Afghanistan this week in a suicide attack in Kandahar.

Helmand Governor spokesman Omar Zwak said clashes were ongoing between security forces and four militants at a market in Gereshk district. Christopher Michael Harris, 25 - were killed in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar when their convoy was attacked with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).

Federal appeals court overturns murder conviction of former Blackwater guard
The ruling said that at a retrial Slatten would be able to introduce evidence alleging he did not fire the first shots. Blackwater, which became well-known after the 2007 shooting, was renamed Xe Services in 2009 and Academi in 2011.

Prior to those attacks, two Romanian special forces troops were killed and another wounded in May 2016 when a local Afghan policeman opened fire on them. On January 1, 2015, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation announced its new mission in the country, called Resolute Support, to train and assist the Afghan security forces.

The armed conflict in Afghanistan, which is in its 16th year, started with the fall of the Taliban regime in the late 2001 and has claimed tens of thousands of lives in the country.

In recent days, the Taliban have stepped up their attacks on Afghan security forces across the country's south.

An ANCOP officer was also wounded in the crossfire.

Late on Thursday, at least five security officials were killed and several wounded in a auto bomb attack near their checkpost in the Gereshk district.

IS considers Shiite Muslims as apostates and frequently targets them in attacks.
