You can now use PayPal through Skype's mobile app

PayPal's 'Send Money' feature lands on Skype

To send money through the app, you'll need to have the latest version, but the person receiving the money can have any version of Skype.

Microsoft and PayPal are teaming up to introduce a new Send Money feature in the modern Skype on mobile devices. However, this isn't a business-oriented tool right now and is quite barebones, unlike other advanced platforms out there.

Microsoft-owned Skype has more than 300 million users, according to an announcement a year ago. However, Skype has lost its original touch and with the recent makeover, has disappointed a ton of its loyal users. The first time you try to use this new feature, you'll be asked to confirm your location.

The Skype app has over 1bn mobile downloads to date. You'll be able to send money with PayPal in Skype conversations without having to open the mobile browser, if you live in one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United States and the United Kingdom.

The transfer rates aren't any different from PayPal's other integrations either. That is, sending is free when you use your PayPal balance or debit card in the U.S. If you choose to use a credit card instead, the fee is 3.4 percent of the transaction amount plus $0.30. Last October, PayPal partnered with Facebook to enable p2p payment on Messenger. It recently also announced partnerships with Samsung Pay, Android Pay, and Baidu.

PayPal says the ability to send money will begin to roll out today to Skype users on iOS and Android, in the USA and elsewhere.
