Teen jumps from plane onto SFO tarmac

The teen an American citizen was stopped by construction crew members who were working nearby. He has been detained for questioning by police and will be transported to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. According to SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel

Passengers on a flight to San Francisco were stunned when a 17-year-old boy opened an exit door on the plane and jumped onto the wing just minutes after it landed.

The incident took place at 2:30 p.m. after COPA Flight 208 from Panama City landed at SFO, and was waiting to taxi to its arrival gate, airport officials said.

Airport spokesman Doug jaeckel said that the builders who were working near detained the teenager until the police arrived. The teen's name has not been released. He was already on the ground and running by the time passengers realized the door had been opened.

'It was as if he was like flying out, like it was really fast, ' passenger Sophia Gibson told San Jose television station KNTV.

"We just landed and then I hear some people scream ... like, 'No!'" 11-year-old passenger Andrea Sepulveda Guzman told CBS News. It is a federal law to open an emergency exit on a plane without having been instructed to do so by the crew.

Copa Airlines officials were not immediately available Wednesday for further comment.

Passenger Matt Crowder said people sitting near the exit row stood up and shouted when the boy jumped. "The door's open. Someone jumped off, '" Crowder told the television station. 'It was pretty insane'.

"We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to support the ongoing investigation", the airline said.

He says no runways or flights were affected and that the unidentified boy wasn't injured.
