North Korea missile tests continue to rile lawmakers in Washington

A bill that would further sanction North Korea now sits on President Trump's desk. But their greater fear is that North Korea's government could collapse, sending millions of refugees fleeing across the border and effectively handing power over the peninsula to South Korea, which in turn means putting a USA ally on China's border.

The official said that while North Korea can now get a missile "off the ground", a lot of undetermined variables remain about guidance, reentry and the ability to hit a specific target.

Xinhua's editorial is a direct response to Trump's tweets targeting China over the weekend.

China said on Monday the U.S. should not link trade to discussions about North Korea's nuclear programme.

He said "Japan has put in some ideas", the USA and China "are seriously looking into this, (and) I hope that we can get it done in days". Again, if China continues to insufficiently address North Korea, I would urge you to consider this option as you and your national security team weigh potential actions to secure China's cooperation in deterring North Korea's nuclear weapons development.

Economic measures against China may reportedly come from the Trump administration sometime this week.

I feel like I'm in such a unique position to where I have the opportunity to be a spokesperson for African-Americans, for women. Race wasn't an issue for me as I was going through the season. "The Lee that I know was a very genuine guy".

"We'll handle North Korea", Trump said.

China is the North's biggest trade partner and food and fuel aid source. Despite North Korea's recent missile tests - clear UNSC violations - it remains unclear whether China will support additional sanctions against North Korea or intends to veto efforts led by the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan.

If China does not change its posture, the USA should take clear and firm action to seek to ensure China's cooperation.

It is simple. While Trump is tweeting and playing golf, North Korea is getting closer to having a nuclear missile that could strike a major USA city. One of the options is reported to be Washington's commitment to withdraw most of its troops from the Korean peninsula in the case that the North Korean regime collapses.

He and many other lawmakers continue to call on China to help thwart North Korea's nuclear program.

Are the North Koreans even interested in talks?
