Trump continues crusade against Sessions with a fresh line of attack

President Donald Trump speaks during a joint news conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri in the Rose Garden of the White House Tuesday

US President Donald Trump has continued his attacks on the Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, asking why he didn't replace Andrew McCabe as acting FBI Director after James Comey was sacked in May.

Later, in a news conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Trump was asked about potentially firing Sessions or forcing him to resign. He took aim at President Trump for his recent treatment of Attorney Jeff Sessions who he has publicly derided as "weak" and "beleaguered" on Twitter.

He also pointed to concerns about the Justice Department's handling of intelligence agency leaks and said Sessions had not done enough to stop them. Time will tell." So it's a waiting game with Trump to see if he can harass Sessions into quitting.

"This arena, here now, there's a lot at stake, and I think the president is frustrated, and if he'd restrained himself more, perhaps he could be a little more successful", he added.

"He should not have recused himself nearly immediately after he took office, and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me to prior to taking office, and I would've quite simply picked somebody else", said Trump, according to CNBC.

"I told you before, I'm very disappointed in my attorney general", Trump said in the White House Rose Garden, according to The Hill.

Crabbe is a fine role player, but stars win games in the National Basketball Association , and Crabbe might not even be a starter. The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Allen Crabbe to the Brooklyn Nets in a move created to lower the team's financial burden.

Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), said if Trump were to fire Sessions, it would "clearly" be a Russian Federation cover-up.

"This was the first person who stumped for Donald Trump, who was with him through thick and thin".

Pence acknowledged that Trump was "disappointed" in Sessions' recusal, saying "there's no attempt to hide his feelings and his expressed disappointment here is very honest".

But in this case, it doesn't seem that Trump wants to fire Sessions. "But I don't think these sorts of public floggings are very helpful", Cole said. Mr. McCabe has remained in place while the president's nominee to run the F.B.I., Christopher A. Wray, goes through the confirmation process.

There is a great deal of speculation that Trump is seeking an attorney general who will take charge of the investigation, and to oversee and possibly fire Mueller, said Stephanopoulos.

U.S. media have said that White House aides have urged Trump to end his nearly daily broadsides against Sessions. "It is more about if an attorney general is going to be removed in this country it should never be because he is not doing your political bidding".
